Restoration and Painting Repairs in Warwick, NY

This is a painting repair that I did this week.  The tear was about 4 inches wide, and the owner of the painting actually wanted me to cut the side of the painting off, fearing that it would not be able to be repaired.  We were able to repair it with a patch of linen on the back which is adhered with a removable mix of bees wax and paraffin.  The patch is applied with a small tack iron and precisely heated through the back of the canvas to the ground layer of the painting.   Then the tear is filled if necessary and in-painted to match the colors.  The result was virtually undetectable.

For the month of May I am offering FREE Art Restoration Consultations which includes a 15% discount off an oil painting cleaning.  The Strazza Gallery is located at 24 Main Street, Warwick NY.  (We're over Frazzelberries) Check our website or call for hours www.StrazzaGallery.com   845-988-5598.

My latest restoration in a church in New York

pictures taken during restoration progress

Church in New York

What a privilege to be working on a restoration and to uncover something so beautiful.

The first picture is so you can see how big these 3 paintings actually are, seen here still covered in plastic with one of the workers (in the center) up in the bucket of the machine that I use to work from. I am also restoring the very top painting in the dome though it is not nearly as beautiful and somewhat dilettante.

St. Bernards Church, Bernardsville, NJ.
This was a restoration after a fire. The cross was the last detail in the church to be restored. See before and after pictures below.
